About the Book
*via GoodReads*
The seductive and stunning # 1 New York Times bestselling sequel to Sarah J. Maas's spellbinding A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she's now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people.
As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre's hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future and the future of a world in turmoil.
Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her dazzling, sexy, action-packed series to new heights.
My Initial Thoughts
The first half of the book I enjoyed. I was locked in. In the middle though... It got a bit slow for me. I am for sure the minority because I had a hard time picking up the book when I got to about part 2ish. But the end!!! I couldn't stop! It's like Sarah waited till the last minute to drop every bomb possible, and I couldn't put the book down. It will leave you wanting to read the next book immediately, I feel bad for anyone who had to wait for the next one to come out. Overall, it was a five-star read for me and I 100% would recommend it to anyone who hasn't read the series yet.
My Review
*spoilers ahead*
This book gave me so many emotions. The book starts with the soon-to-be marriage between Tamlin and Feyre. With the ending of the first book, I was interested in seeing how their relationship would hold after Feyre went through so much under the mountain. The immediate dislike for Tamlin was so strong in this book though. Not only did he act like Feyre couldn't think for herself but he did not care at all about what she wanted while acting like he knew what was best for her. After he locked her in the house I knew there was no way I was gonna like his character from there on out.
But Rhysand!!!!! I could say so much for that man and it still wouldn't be enough. His first time showing himself in the second book was SO iconic. Like during the wedding. Perfect. His character is so complex and I love that what he went through wasn't overlooked. We find out that she and Rhysand are mates and he knew from the moment he met her. Everything just fell into place so beautifully and the writing was so good it was beyond me.
One example is, at the beginning of the book, when Feyre was to marry Tamlin, she was curious about what that would mean for her... rightly so. Like, would she be a high lady?? One would think, right!..but no. According to Mr. Tampon, she wouldn't be. He basically said she wouldn't be his equal and wouldn't have any power. Fast forward to Rhysand at the very end when Rysand swore Feyre as high lady of the night court with no hesitation.
Basically, the book ends with her being a spy for the night court. Oh! Also, Lucien is mates with Nesta! and she and Elain are now faries. So, like I said the book ends in a place where you literally immediately need the next book. Everything happened in the last few chapters it was unbelievable.
I could go over every single detail about what surprised me and what I loved about the book but no one has time for that and I try to keep my reviews pretty short. So I'll just say this book was amazing and so well written. I plan to read the entire series and I'm super excited!
